What to look for before it becomes a repair bill.
None of these mean your house is falling down. All of them mean it is worth an inspection.
Swarmers indoors
Winged termites near windows, doors, porches, or light fixtures. A swarm inside is the clearest signal a colony is close.
Discarded wings
Small piles of thin, equal-length wings on sills, along baseboards, in the garage, or on a screened porch.
Mud tubes
Pencil-width mud tunnels on foundation walls, block piers, slab edges, or under an elevated home.
Hollow or soft wood
Trim, door frames, floors, or deck boards that sound hollow when tapped or give under pressure.
Bubbling paint or warped trim
Termite damage often looks like water damage. Both are worth inspecting rather than assuming.
Wood touching soil
Deck posts, steps, fence pickets, and landscape timbers in contact with the ground are a direct route in.
Termites are a structural problem.
Most pests are a comfort issue. Termites are a building issue. They work inside framing, sill plates, joists, and studs, and by the time damage is visible from the living side of a wall, it has usually been going on for a while.
That is why termite protection is its own plan, separate from regular pest control. The right protection depends on how the structure is built, how water moves around it, where soil touches wood, and what the inspection turns up.

Alabama’s termite pressure is well documented by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, including expanding Formosan termite activity along the Gulf Coast.
Alabama does not have one termite problem. It has three.
Species changes the treatment, the urgency, and where we have to look. Where you live in the state changes which one is most likely.
Eastern Subterranean Termite
The most widespread termite in Alabama, found statewide. Lives in soil, builds mud tubes to reach wood, and swarms in daylight from roughly February through May, often on a warm day after rain.
Formosan Subterranean Termite
First identified in Alabama in the 1980s in Mobile and Baldwin counties, which still carry the state’s heaviest concentration. Colonies are far larger and forage more widely than native species. Swarms at night in late spring, drawn to porch lights.
Drywood Termite
Southeastern drywood termites are found mainly in south Alabama. They live inside the wood itself and need no soil contact, so soil treatment alone will not reach them.

Is the $30 a month a payment plan for the stations?
No. The $30 monthly charge pays for ongoing monitoring, bait maintenance, your annual inspection, and re-treatment. The stations stay the property of Alabama Termite & Pest Services.
How much does a termite inspection cost?
Termite inspections are free. After the inspection we explain what we found and give you a clear recommendation and price if treatment or protection is needed. You keep the findings whether or not you hire us.
What if you find active termites?
The $499 setup price does not apply to homes with active termite activity. Active termites need their own treatment, usually liquid treatment or a combination plan, and we give you that price after the inspection.
Does termite protection cover damage repair?
No. Coverage is re-treatment only. If termites return to a covered area while your plan is active, we re-treat at no additional charge. Repair of damaged wood is not included.
Is there a contract?
Your first year is a 12-month agreement. After that, your plan continues month to month. Your technician walks you through the full agreement before you sign.
Does my termite agreement transfer if I sell my home?
Yes. Your termite agreement transfers to the buyer when you sell.
Do you provide Wood Infestation Reports (WIRs)?
Only for homes with an active termite agreement with us. If you are a current customer selling your home, your technician will go over what paperwork you need and any charge for it.
Do termite bait stations actually work?
Bait stations are effective for long-term protection when they are installed correctly, monitored on schedule, and maintained. They are placed in the soil around the exterior and work as both a monitoring system and a treatment method. They are not a fit for every property, which is what the inspection decides.
When do termites swarm in Alabama?
Eastern subterranean termites usually swarm during daylight hours from roughly February through May, often on a warm day after rain. Formosan termites, concentrated along the Gulf Coast, swarm at night in late spring and are drawn to lights. An indoor swarm at any time of year is worth a prompt inspection.
What is the difference between flying ants and termite swarmers?
Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a thick waist, and four wings of roughly equal length. Flying ants have bent antennae, a pinched waist, and front wings longer than the back wings. If you are not sure, save a sample in a bag or take a close photo and call us.
Are termite treatments safe around children and pets?
We apply products according to label directions and explain any preparation or re-entry instructions before service. Tell the office in advance about children, pets, aquariums, gardens, or wells so we can adjust placement and product selection.
Can I handle termites myself?
You can reduce risk yourself: keep wood off the soil, move firewood and lumber away from the house, pull mulch back from the foundation, fix leaks and drainage problems, and keep crawlspace vents clear. Treatment is different. Subterranean termite control requires soil or baiting work that is regulated and hard to do correctly without training and equipment.
