Why do Lake View homes get termites?

Termites need two things: moisture and wood. Alabama Extension puts it in similar terms, saying termites are drawn to water and cellulose and are more attracted to moist areas than dry wood. Lake View has plenty of both. Lakes, creeks, shaded wooded lots, and crawlspaces keep soil damp, and wood framing, decks, docks, and stored firewood give termites something to eat.

Clean, well-kept homes get termites too. Moisture and access matter more than cleanliness. Damage is often found during renovations, home sales, or after floors start to sag. An inspection is the way to find activity before it gets that far.

Alabama has both native subterranean termites and Formosan termites. Extension reports that Formosan termites are most common in the coastal counties and that infestations are expanding into central Alabama. Either way, the first step is an inspection.

Lakes and wooded land Water and tree cover keep soil moist around foundations, which supports active colonies.
Crawlspace foundations Crawlspaces hold humidity and keep floor framing close to the soil, where termites start.
Docks, decks, and boathouses Wood posts set in or near damp ground give termites a path from the soil to the structure.
New development Clearing and grading can leave roots, stumps, and buried wood close to new foundations.
Older and newer homes alike Both are built with wood framing. A new home says nothing about the soil around it.

What are the signs of termites in a Lake View home?

The main signs are mud tubes, swarmers and shed wings, hollow or soft wood, and paint that bubbles or doors that stick. Many infestations are found by accident. The EPA explains how to tell termite swarmers from flying ants.

Mud tubes

Pencil-width dirt tunnels on foundation walls, basement walls, piers, or crawlspace framing. Termites build them to travel above ground and stay moist.

Swarmers and wings

Winged insects near windows and doors, or small piles of equal-length wings on sills. Swarms happen in warm, humid weather, often after rain.

Hollow or soft wood

Trim, door frames, or hardwood floors that sound hollow when tapped or give under pressure.

Bubbling paint or sticking doors

Termite damage often looks like water damage. Both are worth an inspection.

If you see swarmers indoors, do not spray them. Killing the ones you can see tells you nothing about the colony. Save a few in a bag or take a photo and call 205-425-7378.

Should I choose bait stations or liquid treatment?

It depends on what the inspection finds. Bait stations are the first option for most qualifying homes. Liquid treatment is usually the call when termites are already active in the structure. Alabama Extension describes baits as working on the colony and liquids as a treated zone that termites meet in the soil.

Trelona® Bait Stations

Stations sit in the soil around your home. Termites feed on the bait and carry it back to the colony. We monitor the stations as part of your plan. No drilling through floors, patios, or porches.

  • $499 setup, then $30 a month on qualifying homes
  • Termites carry the bait back to the colony
  • Minimal disruption to landscaping and hardscape

What does termite protection cover, and what does it not?

Termite protection covers monitoring, an annual inspection, and re-treatment if termites return to a covered area while your plan is active. It does not cover repair of termite damage. We say that up front so you can plan for it.

What your plan covers

  • Station monitoring and bait maintenance.
  • An annual termite inspection. Alabama Extension calls the annual inspection one of the most important parts of a termite treatment.
  • Re-treatment at no charge if termites return to a covered area, with a response within 48 hours.
  • Transfer of your agreement to the buyer if you sell.
  • No early-cancellation fee after your first 12 months, or before.

What it does not cover

  • Repair of termite damage. We do not do carpentry or structural repair.
  • Homes with active termites. These need treatment first, priced after the inspection.
  • Homes with spray foam insulation. They do not qualify for the $499 and $30 offer.
  • Stations beyond the first 16. Those are $50 each.

How much does termite control cost in Lake View, AL?

Termite protection from Alabama Termite & Pest Services costs $499 for setup, then $30 a month, on qualifying homes. The setup includes a full inspection and 14 to 16 Trelona® bait stations. Homes with active termites need treatment first, priced after the inspection. Your technician confirms your final price before any work begins.

How much does a termite inspection cost in Lake View?

The termite inspection is free. Alabama Termite & Pest Services inspects your Lake View home, explains what was found, and confirms your price before any work begins. You keep the findings whether or not you hire us.

Why is there a $499 setup fee?

We own our bait stations outright. The setup covers your inspection, 14 to 16 stations, and installation. As a smaller, family-run company, this is how we keep your monthly protection at $30. The stations remain our property, and we maintain them as part of your plan.

How do I know if I have termites?

The main signs of termites are mud tubes on foundation walls or crawlspace framing, swarmers or piles of shed wings near windows and doors, hollow or soft wood, and bubbling paint or sticking doors. Termite damage often looks like water damage. If you see any of these in your Lake View home, call 205-425-7378 for a free inspection.

Should I choose bait stations or liquid treatment?

It depends on what the inspection finds. Alabama Termite & Pest Services uses Trelona® bait stations as the first option for most qualifying Lake View homes, and liquid treatment when termites are already active in the structure. Liquid and combination treatments are priced after the inspection. Your technician reviews the options with you.

What if you find active termites?

The $499 setup price does not apply to homes with active termites. Active termites need their own treatment, usually liquid treatment, and Alabama Termite & Pest Services gives you that price after the inspection.

How often should my home be inspected for termites?

Have your home inspected for termites once a year. Alabama Extension calls the annual inspection one of the most important parts of a termite treatment. The $30 a month plan from Alabama Termite & Pest Services includes an annual termite inspection.

Does termite protection cover damage repair?

No. Coverage is re-treatment only. If termites return to a covered area while your plan is active, we respond within 48 hours and re-treat at no additional charge. We do not do carpentry or structural repair.

Is there a contract?

Your first year is a 12-month agreement. After that, your plan continues month to month. There is no early-cancellation fee. Your technician walks you through the agreement before you sign.

Does my termite plan transfer if I sell my Lake View home?

Yes. Your termite agreement transfers to the buyer when you sell.

Why do Lake View homes near the lakes get termites?

Termites need moisture. Homes near lakes, wooded land, and drainage areas tend to have damp soil for much of the year, and crawlspaces hold that humidity right under the floor framing. Docks, decks, and other wood set near the ground add to the risk.

What should I know about termite treatments around kids and pets?

Bait stations sit in the soil around the outside of your home. Liquid treatments go into the soil and structural contact points. Products are applied according to their EPA-registered labels. Your technician gives you re-entry guidance before treatment, including when people and pets can return to treated areas.

Do you serve McCalla and the rural areas around Lake View?

Yes. The Bessemer office of Alabama Termite & Pest Services serves Lake View, McCalla, and the rural properties around them. If you are not sure your address is covered, call 205-425-7378 and the office will confirm.
