Pest Control on the Highway 280 Corridor
The 280 corridor runs from Mountain Brook out past Chelsea, crossing the Cahaba River at the Jefferson–Shelby county line. Wooded ridgelines, river bottom, golf course turf, and heavily landscaped lots make this one of the higher pest-pressure stretches in the metro. We've worked it since 1963.
- Covers Inverness, Greystone, Meadowbrook, Brook Highland, and Cahaba Heights
- Free inspection with written findings before any treatment
- Discreet scheduling for gated and HOA communities
- Homes, estate properties, and 280-frontage businesses

Why the 280 Corridor Runs Heavy on Pests
This stretch has a specific combination you don't find in flatter parts of the metro: a major river, three mountains, mature hardwood, and thirty years of subdivision development pushed into all of it. Each one contributes something.
The Cahaba River and Its Tributaries
US 280 crosses the Cahaba near Riverview Road at the Jefferson–Shelby line, and a dam just downstream of the bridges slows the water to nearly still. Slow water plus shaded bottomland is a mosquito engine from April through October, and it drives moisture-ant and roach pressure in the neighborhoods closest to the river.
Ridge and Mountain Development
The southeastern corridor climbs over Little Oak Mountain, Oak Mountain, and Double Oak Mountain. Homes cut into those slopes sit against standing hardwood on at least one side, which puts carpenter ants, spiders, and subterranean termite foraging right at the property line.
Golf Course and Estate Landscaping
Greystone, Inverness Country Club, and the estate properties around them run irrigation on a schedule. Consistent soil moisture, deep mulch beds, and dense ornamental plantings hold conditions that fire ants, mosquitoes, and moisture-seeking pests use year-round, even in a dry August.
Older Cahaba Heights Housing Stock
The Jefferson County end of the corridor has considerably older construction than Greystone or Chelsea. Crawl spaces, settled foundations, aging vapor barriers, and original plumbing penetrations are where we find most termite and rodent activity on this end.
Continuous New Construction
The corridor has been building outward toward Chelsea for three decades and still is. Grading displaces established ant and termite colonies, and fill soil around new foundations settles into gaps. Newer subdivisions typically see the heaviest fire ant and foraging-ant pressure in their first few seasons.
Dense Retail and Restaurant Frontage
The stretch between I-459 and The Narrows carries one of the highest traffic counts in the metro and the retail density to match. Shopping centers, restaurants, and their shared dumpster enclosures generate rodent and cockroach pressure that spreads into the residential streets behind them.
Pest Control Services for the 280 Corridor
Pick the problem you're actually seeing. Each service has its own page with corridor-specific detail on treatment and timing.
Also handled on this corridor: flea treatment for homes with pets, and termite inspections for closings in Jefferson and Shelby counties.
What the First Visit Actually Involves
We inspect before we quote. You get told what's active, what conditions are feeding it, and what we'd treat now versus monitor. Then you decide. No contract handed over on the doorstep.
Book My Free InspectionExterior and Grade
On sloped corridor lots we check where water actually goes — downspout discharge, retaining wall drainage, mulch depth against siding, and wood-to-soil contact at decks and stairs.
Foundation Type Check
Crawl space homes get moisture readings, vapor barrier condition, and a pier inspection. Slab homes get expansion joints, plumbing penetrations, and garage seals.
Irrigation and Landscape Zones
On irrigated properties we look at head placement, standing water in beds, and how close dense plantings sit to the structure. This is where most repeat activity starts on 280.
Interior Where You've Seen It
Kitchens, baths, utility rooms, attic access, and any spot you've reported. We follow what you tell us rather than running a fixed checklist.
Findings, Plan, and Price
Written summary of what we found and what we recommend. Prevention steps you can do yourself are included at no charge, because they make treatment last longer.
Termites Are the Expensive Problem Out Here
Central Alabama carries heavy subterranean termite pressure, and corridor properties raise it further. Homes backing to Oak Mountain hardwood, lots near the Cahaba bottomland, and older Cahaba Heights crawl spaces all give colonies what they need. Homeowner policies almost never cover termite damage, which makes an annual inspection the cheapest item in the whole equation.
- Mud tubes on foundation walls, piers, or retaining walls
- Discarded wings near windows and light fixtures in spring
- Wood that sounds hollow when tapped, or blistered paint
- Doors and windows sticking without a weather change
- Soft or springy flooring above a crawl space
Caught early, this is usually a targeted treatment. Caught after floors move, it's treatment plus carpentry. That gap is the reason we push inspection rather than urgency.

Commercial Pest Control on 280 Frontage
The stretch between I-459 and The Narrows is one of the busiest commercial corridors in the metro, with shopping centers, restaurant rows, medical offices, and corporate campuses packed along both sides. A pest sighting in a 280 restaurant travels through local Facebook groups before the shift ends.
- Restaurants and food service: German roach programs with documented service logs
- Retail centers: shared dumpster enclosure work and exterior rodent stations
- Medical and professional offices: low-odor options and after-hours scheduling
- Multi-family and HOA properties: unit-level tracking and resident communication
Frequency and documentation get built around your operation and your inspection requirements.

Neighborhoods We Cover Along 280
The corridor crosses two counties and several city limits. Here's where we spend the most time and what each area tends to deal with.
Inverness & Meadowbrook
Established subdivisions around the Valleydale Road intersection, close to Lake Heather and the Inverness Country Club. Irrigated turf and mature landscaping drive fire ant and mosquito work more than anything else here.
Book an InspectionGreystone & Highland Lakes
Golf course and gated estate properties with large irrigated lots against standing hardwood. Termite protection and seasonal mosquito programs carry most of the volume, with discreet scheduling arranged through the gate.
Greystone Pest ControlBrook Highland & Grandview
Subdivisions and townhome communities near the Grandview Medical Center end of the corridor. Shared walls and dense construction mean rodent and roach issues move between units, so treatment works better coordinated.
Request ServiceCahaba Heights & Cahaba Village
The older Jefferson County end near Pump House Road and Dolly Ridge Road. Original crawl space construction and aging utility penetrations put this area's termite and rodent risk above the newer stretches.

Family neighborhoods on the Vestavia Hills side where the corridor meets I-459. Wooded common areas and creek drainage keep mosquito and ant pressure steady through the warm months.
Schedule a VisitThe Narrows & Toward Chelsea
Where 280 climbs past Double Oak Mountain and the lots get larger. Newer construction on cut-and-fill ground, backing to woods on at least one side. Heavier termite, spider, tick, and wildlife-adjacent pressure than the inner corridor.

What Does Pest Control Cost on the 280 Corridor?
It depends on the property. A townhome in Brook Highland and a five-acre estate in Greystone are not the same job, and a crawl space adds work a slab doesn't. We inspect first and quote from what we find, so you're comparing a real scope instead of a phone guess.
Plan tiers and what each one includes are listed on our main residential page.

Straight answers to what corridor homeowners and business owners ask before they book.
What area does "the 280 corridor" actually cover for service?
For our purposes it runs from the Mountain Brook and Cahaba Heights end, through the I-459 interchange, past Inverness, Meadowbrook, Greystone, and Brook Highland, and out toward The Narrows and Chelsea. That crosses both Jefferson and Shelby counties and covers ZIP codes 35242 and 35243. If you're near an edge, call 205-425-7378 and we'll tell you straight.
How much does pest control cost along Highway 280?
Price depends on the size of the structure, the foundation type, the pest, and how long the activity has been going. We inspect at no charge and give you a written price before treatment, so you can compare a real scope against other quotes. Plan tiers are listed on our residential plans page.
Which pests are most common on this stretch?
Subterranean termites, mosquitoes, fire ants and carpenter ants, cockroaches, rodents, spiders, and ticks. The mix shifts along the corridor — irrigated Greystone and Inverness lots run heavier on ants and mosquitoes, while the older Cahaba Heights end and the wooded stretch toward Chelsea see more termite and rodent work.
Do you work in gated communities like Greystone and Highland Lakes?
Yes. We coordinate gate access and scheduling in advance, and technicians work unmarked-vehicle-quiet where a community requires it. If your HOA has a vendor registration or insurance requirement, tell the office when you call and we'll get the paperwork over before the first visit. See our Greystone service page for that community specifically.
When should I start mosquito service on 280?
Early April, before populations build. Season typically runs through October, and longer on properties near the Cahaba River or a creek branch, where slow water holds breeding conditions late. Treatment works best paired with source reduction — clearing gutters, emptying containers, and checking irrigation for standing water. Details on the 280 mosquito control page.
Do I need termite protection if my house is on a slab?
Yes. A slab removes the crawl space, not the risk. Subterranean termites move through expansion joints, plumbing penetrations, and slab cracks, and they can be well inside a wall before anything shows. Newer corridor construction on cut-and-fill ground is not exempt — grading disturbs existing colonies rather than removing them.
How quickly can you get out here?
Call 205-425-7378 and the office will give you the next available window for your address rather than a stock answer. Termite swarms indoors, stinging insect nests near an entryway, and rodents inside a living space get moved up the schedule.
Are treatments safe around children and pets?
We use EPA-registered products applied by licensed Alabama technicians, placed where people and pets don't have routine contact — crack and crevice, exterior perimeter, and monitored stations. Your technician will tell you what was applied, where, and how long to stay off a treated area. If anyone in the home is pregnant, immunocompromised, or has a respiratory condition, say so when you schedule and the plan will account for it.
